Wylie Independent School District is a fast growing school system in southern Collin County , 24 miles northeast of metropolitan Dallas , the UIL Class 5A district of more than 9,800 students serves the City of Wylie as well as families in the surrounding communities of Sachse, Murphy, and St. Paul .
Wylie Independent School District offers an outstanding academic program with a focus on character education beginning in elementary school. The curriculum includes a wide range of programs from culinary arts to television production. The district emphasizes technology in the classroom and as a communications tool for parents. The 13 campuses include Wylie High School (grades 9 through 12), two junior high schools (grades 7 and 8), two intermediate schools (grades 5 and 6) and seven elementary campuses (grades Pre-K through 4). Cooper Junior High opened on August 16, 2006 and serves grades 5 through 7.
WISD plans to open three new campuses in August 2007; a high school, an intermediate and an elementary school. When it opens, Wylie East High School will house ninth graders. Draper Intermediate will serve grades 5 and 6 and Smith Elementary will serve grades Pre-K through 4.
